Letters to Tanner
Letter 1: The Three Cs of Liberty
Dear Tanner,

You did something very magical on April 29, 2008. You took one breath of life and turned me into a grandfather.  I’m so glad you did.  You have an exciting life ahead of you.  I’m going to write you some letters that will help you prepare for the years in front of you.  My hope is that the information in these letters will help you build a solid foundation for success in all phases of your life.  The times in which you live contain paths that if chosen, can lead to danger, discouragement and despair.  You don’t have to have a life that incorporates these dismal “d” words.

You were born in the United States of America (USA), the greatest country ever to grace the face of the earth.  It was founded by men, who at great personal risk, dared to establish a nation where liberty and freedom would be extended to all of its citizens.  We refer to these men as the Founding Fathers.  The USA was first a group of 13 colonies governed by the nation called Great Britain, sometimes referred to as England.  The King of England, along with his lawmaking body (Parliament), put oppressive laws on the colonists, many of which included high taxes.  Taxes are monies that a government collects from its citizens to pay for more government services or increase the wealth of the state or nation.

Humanism

Christianity

Liberal

Conservative

Socialism

Capitalism

The words on the left are adverse to the Three Cs of Liberty on the right.  I will explain why in later letters, but first let’s look at why we can say that the Founding Fathers embraced the Three Cs of Liberty, creating a nation characterized by Christianity, Conservative government and a Capitalistic economy.

There is overwhelming evidence that the Founding Fathers’ concept for a nation was influenced by the Christian faith that was common to them.  Historical events and writings by the Founders themselves make up this evidence.  Let’s first look at some of the recorded words of the Founders and see the clear confirmation that they desired their
